My House, My Wonderland: Creating a Tropical Paradise in the Heart of Amsterda
Share
I've always been a bit of an eigenganger—someone who walks their own path. Sure, I ask for advice, and I care about other people's feelings, but at the end of the day, 9 times out of 10, I trust my gut. Do you feel the same? Does your instinct end up being the loudest voice in your head? If so, welcome to the club—we're birds of a feather (Peacock comes to mind).
Ever since I was a child, I've been creating my own little wonderland. Back then, it was with my Barbies. I wasn't about the dramatic storylines or fashion—I was all about decorating Barbie's house, setting up the furniture just right, making her world feel like a dream. Fast forward to today, and while I don't play with Barbies anymore, I still create wonderlands—just in real size now.
Finding Light in Open Spaces
My two-bedroom apartment—a spacious 171m² playground—comes with its own unique challenges. Creating cozy nooks and elegant corners in an open-concept space isn't always straightforward. And then there's the lighting challenge: limited windows mean very little natural sunlight. For a plant enthusiast like me, that was quite the puzzle! But I've always believed that every challenge has a solution—and the bigger the challenge, the more creative the solution needs to be.
Discovering My Style Journey
When I moved in three years ago, I faced the exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) question: What is my style? This was my first time decorating a home completely on my own. No compromises, no negotiations—just pure, unfiltered me. Finding my inner Martha-Stewart-meets-Boho-Tropical-meets-Queen-of-Cozy persona was quite the adventure.
This journey of self-discovery and home styling led to the birth of Tropic Casa in 2024—my tropical interior décor shop where dreams of paradise come home.
Creating a Personal Paradise
I've learned that true style means being surrounded by things that tell your story. Not because they're trending, but because they carry memories, emotions, or simply remind you of beauty. That's how my tropical wonderland—with an eclectic maximalist twist—came to be. Think lush, vibrant tropical aesthetics mixed with layers of textures, rich patterns, and unexpected color combinations. It's a beautiful chaos that somehow flows perfectly together.
Home: Where Love Lives
To me, a home is a place of love—felt and shared. It's not just shelter; it's a sanctuary where we can rest, bloom, and recharge. That's why my wonderland brims with:
- Lush greenery (both real and artificial)
- Bold, statement wallpapers
- Vibrant textiles
- Character-filled furniture pieces
- Personal treasures that spark joy
- Crystal collections (because who doesn't want good vibes?)
Living in Luxury
In today's world, where home is often both sanctuary and workspace, we need environments that energize and inspire. True luxury isn't about designer labels—it's about waking up happy, sipping coffee in your indoor jungle, and sliding into the softest, dreamiest bedsheets at night.
Your home should be your personal wonderland—a place where every room, every detail tells your unique story. That's exactly what we at Tropic Casa help you create: your very own slice of paradise.
So tell me, what does your wonderland look like?
With warm regards,
Catherine
